This man has saved lives of thousands of animals. He makes prostheses for dogs, foxes, camels, horses and even elephants

This kind-hearted man is an orthopedist from America, his name is Derrick Campana. He managed to save and facilitate the lives of 20,000 animals by making prostheses and special braces for them. He also makes educational videos for veterinarians.

At first, he wanted to make prosthetics for humans. But one case changed everything. Once, his dog, a Labrador named Charles, needed help. He injured his paw and the man tried to make a prosthetic for him. After everything worked out with it, he decided to work only with animals.

By 2005, Derrick managed to start an animal care business with prosthetics. The company was named Animal Ortho Care. Now Derrick makes prostheses for all animals: both pets and animals from zoos.

Now Derrick has a huge customer base. He made prostheses for dogs, cats, goats, foxes, camels, horses, gazelles, sheep and even elephants. Some patients the doctor himself has not even seen.

Remote work with patients is organized as follows: The company sends the pet owner a kit that allows them to determine the shape of the paw. After the measurement process, the owners send back the impression. Then Animal Ortho Care specialists create a personalized prosthesis from thermoplastic materials.

Derrick Campana is a member of the show “Heroes Among Us” on the Animal Planet channel. In this show, they talk about his two-week stint in Arizona and a trip to Africa where he put an orthopedic brace on elephant feet.
