After being missing for 20 years: Cat spends the last days before her death at home!

A little cat miracle

In 2001, owner Christine Ball (59) had to report her then two-year-old cat Phoebe missing. That was 20 years ago. 20 long years in which the Englishwoman missed her fluffy roommate every single day. Everywhere in her neighborhood she hung up posters, hoping to hold her beloved Phoebe in her arms again one day. The 59-year-old never dreamed that this wish would actually come true after 20 years!

Emotional reunion

But when she had already given up all hope, Christine received a call from a nearby animal rescue center: a woman had found Phoebe about 11 kilometers away in a field and had handed her over to the animal rescue center. Thanks to a chip the cat is wearing, the staff could identify Phoebe and thus also her owner Christine. And she can’t believe her eyes and ears after 20 years: “We were totally gobsmacked when we got the call. When we reported her missing, she was just two years old. We suspect someone just took her then and from there she may have run away,” she tells the online magazine “Metro”.

The last days at home

But the joy about her reunion is quickly clouded. Because the vets tell owner Christine that Phoebe is in a very bad condition. The old cat lady has a brain tumor and must be euthanized. But Phoebe is allowed to spend the last two days of her long life with her mistress – and she spoils her “lost child” and gives her two last wonderful days full of love and affection. “It was very sad that we had finally found her again and then had to let her go so quickly. But it was great that we could spend some more time with her and be there for her when she really needed us,” Christine tells “Metro.” And even if it’s not a story with a happy ending, for cat Phoebe it was probably the most beautiful farewell to her 22 years of life in this world.
