Divers free a shark tangled in a rope: the sea giant asked for help

Last December, divers Simone Musumeci and Antonio Di Franca were diving near Fuwamula Island in the Maldives. They had barely had time to board the boat when their guide suddenly spotted a huge whale shark in the water.

A thick rope was hanging from the fish’s neck, squeezing the skin and leaving imprints on it. The shark kept circling the boat as if asking for help – and the divers, without hesitation, immediately jumped into the water.

Whale sharks are not dangerous to humans despite their impressive size. They feed mainly on plankton and are not known for their aggressive behavior.

The sea giant let the divers get close to it and waited calmly while they tried to cut the rope with knives.

This was not easy, because the shark was constantly on the move. But on the second try, Simone and Antonio managed to “saw” the dense fibers and free the fish from the trap.

The rope had left deep marks on the shark’s skin, but now it was over.

Simone and Antonio were on their way to the boat when suddenly the shark returned. It circled the divers and came closer and closer – as if it wanted to thank them for their help. According to Simone, it was “the most beautiful moment of their lives” that they can never forget.
