Japanese Hirooka Arakawa is 79 years old, but still works as a diver in an underwater park off the coast of the Japanese city of Tateyama. Despite his venerable age, Hirooki dives into the water every day to his friend – a fish.
An unusual friendship between a man and a fish began 25 years ago when Hirooki found fish outside the gates of an underwater park. He was very weak, could hardly move and could not get food for himself.
The Japanese took care of him – feeding him crabs every day. After 10 days the underwater dweller felt better, but the friendship lasted 25 years. The Japanese diver is very attached to the fish. He is sure that he knows him too.
According to scientists, some fish species can distinguish human faces, but this fact has not been scientifically proven.
The fish Hirooki is friends with is the Asian wrasse.
This is a very peculiar creature and many would call it unattractive. The wrasse has several spherical outgrowths on its forehead and chin. But for the Japanese, his friend seems to be very nice and cute.
