A chimpanzee named Mommy has lived at the Royal Zoo in the Netherlands for 59 years. When Mommy spent her last days, she refused to eat and lay curled up all the time.

This lasted until an old friend visited her, a professor of biology at Utrecht University, Jan Van Hoff, who had known Mommy since 1972. After learning about the monkey’s condition, he put all his affairs aside and came to say goodbye to her.

Mommy didn’t recognize the professor right away, but as soon as she realized who was in front of her, she lit up with happiness. Chimpanzee smiled, stroking her boyfriend’s face the whole time, hugging him by the neck and pulling him to her.

The zoo staff was amazed at how deeply the monkey felt. Their joy was sincere and very touching – this is the only way to say goodbye to dear friends.

Mommy died just a week later. Frans de Waal, a behaviorist who worked with her, called her an “extremely strong and strong-willed person.” According to him, no one could compare to her. She was surprisingly able to resolve conflict situations within her family.

“We will all miss her, especially me. I have rarely met such wonderful personalities, both animals and people, “he added.
