Three-legged cat finds shelter after losing owner by returning to home

Bubby visited the home of Boyd Abbott for several years until one day the man passed away. His relatives wanted to take care of the cat, but he disappeared… only to return.

Bubby, the homeless cat, has been through a lot – he’s missing his front paw and part of his tail. But that’s not the only difference – his story is truly unique. In 2012, the cat wandered aimlessly through the streets of Grand Falls Windsor, Newfoundland, Canada. Then, one day, Bubby found himself in Boyd Abbott’s kitchen. From that day on, the cat showed up outside the house every day and boldly stepped inside.

Boyd and the other family members quickly fell in love with the mysterious cat and began to take care of him. However, Bubby didn’t want to be a normal house cat and went outside every time. The housemates got used to his behavior and let him out. Sadly, Boyd Abbott died a few years later, and one of his last wishes was that his family members continue to care for Bubby. Despite his family members’ best efforts, this was not to be – the cat suddenly disappeared and never reappeared. Soon, the Abbott family moved to another location.

In the early summer of 2019, Bubby suddenly reappeared in the same area. One day, Ray Pinsent, who lived near the former Abbott home, spotted Bubby and recognized him as a cat who had once had a special relationship with a deceased neighbor.

Ray decided to talk to the new owners of the house about Bubby. The young man asked the woman who opened the door for him if she could let the cat in the next time he showed up at her house. The very next day, the young man received a call from this woman telling him that the cat was sitting in her kitchen. Ray picked up Bubby and rushed to the shelter. Bubby was sent to the vet, and the cat began purring during the exam. Volunteer Sarah McLeod offered to take the cat in temporarily, even though she already knew she was leaving him for good.

We weren’t looking for another cat, so my boyfriend had to be convinced. The first night I came home from work and found Bubby and my boyfriend together on the floor. Bubby climbed on top of him. Neither of us had seen him do that before. Bubby with his sad human eyes was once loved, and now he is loved again. He purrs from the minute he wakes up in the morning until bedtime. He has never once asked to go outside. He knows he is home now, forever.”
