“An old man sleeping with strange cats”: at the shelter they told the details of his wishes

About 6 months ago, an older man named Terry first came to Safe Haven Pet Sanctuary in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

After that, he came here the next day with a special brush to scratch the cats. And then he came to cats every day.

The shelter positions itself as a place where cats are not euthanized if they are not found to be owners, and does not keep them in cages. At the same time, the shelter often rescues animals with disabilities, ie disabled people. That’s what attracted Terry. He really wanted to help cats that no one was bringing home to them.

“Terry came to us one day, introduced himself and said he wanted to offer his free help caring for cats,” says Elizabeth Feldhausen, founder of Safe Haven Pet Sanctuary. “Then he started coming to us every day.”

Terry loves animals dearly, but he especially enjoys lying on the couch and napping with a cat or two resting on his legs or arms. Terry also has a special gift, with his affection and gentle treatment he can calm even the most nervous cat.

“He takes care of cats, combs them and can talk about what likes and dislikes this or that cat has. And, of course, very often he likes to lie on the couch with cats. We don’t mind because cats really like to lie next to him. “

Now Terry is recognized as an official volunteer of the shelter and he hasn’t missed a day since he got here six months ago.

“Terry doesn’t sleep for long, and when he wakes up, he continues to comb the cats. By the way, he has a special favorite, a cat named Buckhorn.”

When pictures of Terry and cats were recently posted on the shelter’s social accounts, many Internet users really liked Terry. Some called him “cat’s grandfather” and even wrote poems about him. Terry himself is a little surprised by this popularity, but he likes the nickname Feline Grandpa.
