Shannon Basner of Alaska is the founder of Alaska’s KAAATs, a nonprofit organization. She and other members of her team help cats in need. One day, Shannon saw a tiny kitten in her backyard. Its back legs weren’t moving. She took the baby to the organization’s shelter. She named him Harpurr, which means “fluffy purr.”
The veterinarians examined him and told him the sad news that he would never walk again. Both of his back legs were paralyzed and could not be treated. But other than that, the foundling was very healthy and active.
At first, Shannon fed Harpurr every 2-3 hours. After a few weeks, the kitten became stronger and even tried to walk on his two front legs and drag his back legs behind him. The woman decided to take Harpurr to her home and introduce him to her pets. She wanted the kitten to have friends.
Shannon has three dogs and several cats. They all get along well. A husky named Cinder immediately took Harpurr in and they became friends.
Cinder, who has spent most of her life on the streets, has been a wonderful foster mom to all the rescued dogs and cats. She is very friendly and extremely caring.
Whenever she notices that a little four-legged friend needs her help, her maternal instinct kicks in. The same thing happened with Harpurr. The kitten snuggled up to the husky and immediately felt safe.
When Harpurr was a little older and stronger, Shannon began to get him used to the cart with wheels. She wanted him to get used to this way of getting around. Fortunately, Harpurr quickly mastered the cart and began to move nimbly around the house. His paralyzed legs did not prevent him from enjoying life.
Without the cart, Harpurr moves around on his front legs, albeit more slowly, and prefers to be close to Cinder. They spend a lot of time together and judging from the photos and videos Shannon shares on social media, they love each other very much.
