It’s no secret that dogs love to eat. They often nibble on treats when we’re at the dinner table, and sometimes it’s hard for us to say no. Well, this golden retriever is no exception. Kai was severely overfed by his previous owners and ended up weighing about 78kg, which is way more than he should weigh.
The pooch could no longer move properly, let alone perform the simple tasks that any dog should do, like running and playing. Kai’s old owners decided to euthanize him, but the vets refused and instead went to a shelter, where the dog was helped and his life changed for the better.
Golden retriever’s previous owners sired a dog that outweighed him to become a widow
The weight of male Golden Retrievers ranges from 26 to 41.5 kilograms, the latter figure, as you understand, is the weight limit of the animal.
When the dog reached an indescribable weight and could no longer walk or run, the owners decided to euthanize him “so that he does not suffer”.
Instead of changing his diet, putting him on a diet and incorporating exercise into his daily routine, the desperate owners took the easiest route and took him to the vet to have him put down. The problem, however, was not the dog, but the people who had overfed him.
Fortunately for Kai, he had good vets who felt that being overweight was no reason to take the dog’s life and refused to euthanize him
Instead, they contacted a local shelter, and the shelter volunteers agreed to take Kai in and place him in their care.
Kai kept a level head despite his extra weight.He put on a special diet and did some exercises in the water
It was not easy for Kai, because the extra kilos were a big burden for him, but he coped with it
Of course, Kai’s favorite activity was still feeding, but he was satisfied with the small ration he got
So much effort was not wasted that Kai was able to lose 41 kilos!
He now weighs 37 kilos and if you look at his old photos, it’s hard to see his now slender retriever
All this time, Pam Heggie has been taking care of the dog. She planned to help the little dog lose weight and then try to find him a good home
But it happened that during this time she got so used to Kai that she couldn’t part with him. Now she is his rightful owner!
The puppy became not only a ward, but a new friend, about whose fate and health the woman was very concerned
Now Kai is an active and healthy dog who loves to walk in the park, play with other dogs and travel
