Long-awaited meeting: A shelter cat made friends with a doe and waits to see her every day

Lulu, a spotted cat, has a dysfunctional family in her past and her owner was a hoarder. Hoarders are people who clutter up an apartment with useless junk that no one will ever use.

And sometimes hoarders “pile up” animals: They take stray cats or dogs off the street, by the dozens – far more than they can feed. Even more than can fit in their homes.

Lulu was taken from such a home to a shelter. Her neighbors and roommates were torn apart, and she was sent to a foster home. Lulu had never had people of her own, and she didn’t know what a loving family and a space of her own was.

Her new owners decided not to force the issue: They moved Lulu to a room in the basement and installed her own “scratching post” with a cat bed.

At first, Felix the cat lived with her, and they even got along well. But then her friend was moved to a new home and Lulu was left alone.

She had learned to trust people and let herself be petted and cuddled. But the cat was still terribly shy and fearful. Lulu’s temporary owner Jennifer Burke admits the black and white cat is awfully cute, but too shy at the moment.

“It’s so nice to see her blossom before my eyes!” – Says Jennifer.

It wasn’t long before Lulu was on her own. A month into her life in the house, an adorable young fallow deer began stopping by the yard regularly. Deer are not uncommon in the area, but they had never stayed long before. Dolly, as Jennifer and her family called him, came to the farm almost every day.

The reason was quickly found. One day, Jennifer looked out the window of her second-floor room and saw a deer standing directly below. It seemed awfully interested in something.

The woman walked down the stairs and caught an amazing sight: Lulu was looking at Dolly, and Dolly was looking at Lulu. After that day, their meetings became regular.

The more they got to know each other, the more they bonded. At first, Dolly watched the cat from a respectful distance, and the cat was shy. But soon Dolly began to approach the window. Lulu also became completely relaxed in the presence of the deer.

Now Dolly can even come several times a day. And the whole family is sure that the reason for frequent visits is their pet cat. Dolly loves to check on her long-tailed friend and seems concerned about her well-being.
