A little girl ran a long way in winter to save her dog

In remote villages in Turkey, there is usually no veterinarian. When a cow fell ill in one of them, Ogün Ozturk was called by phone. He put on a warmer jacket and went out. When he finished with the sick animal and was about to go home, he saw something that made him stop.

A small black dot appeared at the end of an empty street. It was clearly a child, and it moved stubbornly toward the doctor. As the silhouette approached, Ogün could see that it was a little girl with a dog. The dog was securely wrapped and hidden in a hood.

It was eight-year-old Jemre Su Türköz. When she heard that a veterinarian was coming to the village, the girl knew that this was her only chance to help her beloved puppy. The dog, named Pamuk, had a skin disease.

The girl wrapped the puppy, put it in a hood so that it would not get tired and cold, and left the house. Jemre didn’t think about the trouble or self-pity – she wanted to be there before the vet was back in town. But it wasn’t hard to get lost on a trail like this.

But she and Pamuk were lucky. They caught Ogün, and her appearance touched the man so much that he helped the puppy and did not take money from the owner. Fortunately for Jemre, nothing serious happened to Pamuk. It turned out that externally he was sufficiently treated against parasites.

Ogün went back with the girl and the puppy. He accompanied the dog and the owner to their house, gave them his number and promised to come back if something happened to the dog. The vet has no plans to charge her for the examination: Love and loyalty are the best payment.

Acts like this bring back faith in people, the doctor believes.

“I was glad that an eight-year-old child is capable of such deeds, she has a big heart!”

That day, thanks to their own bravery, the girl and her puppy gained a friend and patron. And the doctor got an injection of faith in humanity and a little warmth from the rays of someone else’s love.
