The cold weather had the strongest negative impact not only on the residents of the southern United States, but also on animal husbandry. Power outages disrupted supply chains and animals lacked food and water.

Texans, as well as Americans from other southern states, were encouraged to bring their farm animals indoors during the cold snap. Volunteers at Sea Turtle, Inc. bring sea turtles to the South Padre Island Convention Center.
