Young woman carries injured swan miles to train & takes her all the way to veterinary clinic

Ariel Cordova-Rojas thought she could spend her whole day watching birds when she was at an animal sanctuary in Queens near New York City.

But shortly after she got there, she spotted a bird in desperate need of help. She found a swan that seemed strange to her.

“He wasn’t moving. I approached him, and he remained calm.

Swans are usually very aggressive and protective of their territory, so I knew something was wrong,” she told Daily News.

The U.S. citizen had worked for five years in a bird rescue center, where she took care of wild migratory birds or eagles. So she knew what to look for in injured animals.

Despite her experience, she didn’t know exactly what to do with the injured swan now. All she had was her bike and her jacket. Her former job was over an hour away.

So without further ado, she gently threw the jacket around the swan and slowly picked it up and walked over a kilometer back to her bike.

“Carrying a swan, I had to run.”

After taking the eight-kilogram swan to her bike, she tried contacting different sanctuaries, but all of them were closed.

She carried the swan and pulled her bike with her to the nearest subway station, where she took the train all the way to Brooklyn. There she met two members of the Wild Bird Fund animal welfare organization, who rode with her and the swan to the nearest animal hospital in Manhattan.

Today, she explains that it was a pretty incredible feeling to ride the subway with the sick swan.

However, when they finally arrived at the animal hospital, the veterinary staff took him directly into their care.

The swan was a bit underweight and had signs of poisoning. In the meantime, however, he is stable, but they are still waiting for the exact blood results.

What a great and unique action of the young woman who took everything on herself to save the poor bird.
